SPRING VALLEY, Calif. - A car struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon at an intersection near Sweetwater Reservoir.
The traffic fatality occurred at Jamacha Boulevard and La Presa Avenue shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian was crossing Jamacha Boulevard illegally against a red light and ran across the street into the path of a Toyota Pruis heading westbound. The Prius driver had no time to react and was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian, who was also hit by a Nissan. Neither driver is being cited.
The victim, believed to be a teenager, died at the scene, CHP public-affairs Officer Robert Catano said.
The accident left all westbound lanes and one eastbound lane blocked at the road crossing into the early evening, the officer said.
