EL CAJON -
A man was critically injured when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing an El Cajon street early Saturday.
The crash occurred at about 1:47 a.m. in the 1400 block of East Washington Avenue, said El Cajon Police Lt. Frank La Haye.
"Witnesses at the scene said the pedestrian, a 53-year-old man who lives in El Cajon, was crossing the four-line roadway of East Washington Avenue when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle," he said. "He was transported to an area hospital where he was receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries."
The adult driver of the 1996 Nissan Maxima stopped immediately after the collision and cooperated with police investigators, La Haye said.
La Haye said speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the collision.
Information about the victim was not being released pending family notification. An investigation was continuing.
Police asked anyone with information on the collision to call the El Cajon Police Department Traffic Division at (619) 441-1632.
