SAN DIEGO - A parolee accused of attacking a woman on a pedestrian trail in Balboa Park was charged Monday with assault with intent to commit rape.
Ameen Bryant, 21, will be arraigned Thursday at the downtown courthouse.
On Jan. 14, the victim was walking along a path south of the Cabrillo Bridge about 1:15 p.m. when a man in dark green cargo pants and a white T-shirt attacked her from behind and threw her to the ground, San Diego Police Department sex-crimes Lt. Chuck Kaye said.
The woman fought off the man, who ran off when a married couple happened onto the scene.
Bryant was arrested and booked into jail Jan. 22. He has a 2012 conviction for robbery from Los Angeles County, according to a criminal complaint.
