Paradise Hills couple jolted from sleep during break-in: Homeowner fired gun to scare intruder

SAN DIEGO - A Paradise Hills man fired his handgun into the air while chasing away a home burglar early today but no one was hurt, police said.
The burglary in the 6300 block of Elsberry Street was reported shortly before 3 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.
Authorities said it appeared that the burglar scaled up the side of the home and entered through a sliding door of a balcony.
10News learned that a husband and wife woke up after hearing footsteps. The husband started yelling to his wife that there was someone inside the house.
The suspect tried to flee through the front door, but found that it was locked. He then ran out of a back door.
The homeowner said he fired one shot in the air to scare the intruder.
No one was injured and it does not appear that the suspect took anything. Police searched the area but were unable to find the burglar. Authorities have not released a description of the intruder.
