SAN DIEGO - A panga boat washed up in La Jolla early Friday and 14 people suspected of entering the country illegally were taken into custody, according to a U.S. Border Patrol official.
Border Patrol agents responded shortly after the open hull fishing vessel on the shore was reported to police about 2:30 a.m., Border Patrol Agent Jerry Conlin said.
Agents on the ground and in a helicopter launched a search that resulted in 13 male suspects and one female suspect, all from Mexico, being taken into custody, Conlin said.
They were all taken to the local Border Patrol station, Conlin said.
Agents seized the vessel, and no narcotics were found, he said.
