Pair linked to ice cream shop robbery arrested after standoff in Sherman Heights

SAN DIEGO - A man and a woman linked to an armed robbery at an ice cream and coffee shop in Old Town were taken into custody after an intense standoff, police said Monday.

The man walked into Korky's Ice Cream and Coffee Store at 2375 San Diego Ave. about 7 p.m. Sunday and took cash at gunpoint, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

An employee at at the store described the robbery to 10News.

She said the man ordered a couple of cappuccinos before pulling out a gun.

"He looked like a regular customer but once I was about to charge him, he takes out a gun and asks me to give him the money," said Ana Sanchez.

He then fled to a silver Infinity driven by the woman, Delimitros said in a statement.

Around 9:30 p.m., officers located the getaway vehicle in the 2200 block of K Street and found both suspects to be in a nearby residence, he said.

Officers surrounded the home and had their weapons drawn.

At 12:45 a.m., the man surrendered to police. The woman was taken into custody at 2:41 a.m.
