SAN DIEGO - A 7-year-old Pacific Beach boy has raised $2,500 so that he can help others get canine companions as well.

Connor Vaughn raised the money with the help of his parents for DogFest, Canine Companions for Independence's annual signature event.

Connor trained with Jinxy for several months before the duo graduated together in May. Jinxy helps the second grader with his muscular dystrophy.

"Makes it hard for him to do things like stairs and taking clothes on and off," said Connor's dad Dylan Vaughn.

The money Connor has raised will be enough to pay the veterinarian bill for five other dogs like Jinxy.

It costs roughly $50,000 to raise and train a companion dog. DogFest, which is this Saturday at Liberty Station, helps raise some of those funds. The dogs are placed with those in need for free.
