SAN DIEGO -

A sobriety checkpoint in Pacific Beach yielded 14 arrests of suspected intoxicated drivers, police said Saturday.

The San Diego Police Department and San Diego County Probation Department operated the checkpoint from 10:20 a.m. Friday to 2:38 a.m. Saturday morning in the 1600 block of Garnet Avenue, said San Diego police Officer Mark McCullough.

A total of 718 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with 623 of them stopped by officers, he said.

Nineteen motorists were screened for sobriety and 14 of them were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, said McCullough.

Fifteen vehicles were impounded, he said.
