SAN DIEGO - Crews on Naval Base San Diego have cleaned up an oil spill onboard the USS Chancellorsville.
The spill was reported at about 7 a.m. Saturday.
Base officials tell 10News about 150 gallons were spilled. A containment boom surrounding the ship prevented the oil from entering San Diego Bay.
The oil response team at Naval Base San Diego responded and placed absorbent pads into the water to help soak up oil.
Officials say the cause of the spill was linked to a mechanical error related to the check valve, which had a leak somewhere. The leak was repaired and the spill was cleaned up by about noon.
