Officer-involved shooting in Encanto sends 2 to hospital

ENCANTO - A San Diego police officer was involved in a shooting in Encanto that sent two civilians to the hospital Thursday, police said.

The officer-involved shooting in the 600 block of 64th Street was reported at 7:50 a.m. after officers arrived to serve a search warrant, said SDPD Lt. Jorge Duran.

One officer saw a man inside the home reach for what she thought was a weapon and out of fear, she fired several rounds. A man was shot in the lower extremity and a woman was shot in the lower leg, said Duran.

Paramedics took the two patients to Scripps Mercy Hospital to be treated for the non-life threatening injuries, Duran said.

A total of six people were inside the home and four were detained for questioning.

The officers involved in the incident has been with the San Diego Police Department for three years.
