MIRA MESA, Calif. - A police officer responding to a domestic violence call in a Mira Mesa neighborhood was involved in a shooting that left one person injured.
The incident occurred in the 8800 block of Scorpius Way at about 8:55 p.m., according to police dispatchers.
Authorities said they believe the man who was wounded was attempting suicide by cop.
Officials said the man held a boulder over his head in a threatening manner and officers employed a Taser to subdue him, but he did not go down. The man then turned around and started walking back toward the house.
Fearing he might hurt the woman who had originally called in the domestic violence report, officers said they fired two shots.
The man was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
