Oceanside Council rejects proposal for oldest golf course in county

OCEANSIDE, Calif. - The Oceanside City Council rejected plans Wednesday to turn the county's oldest golf course into a soccer academy.

Real Salt Lake team owner Dell Loy Hansen had hoped to build a stadium, five youth fields, two hotels and reconfigure the golf course to a nine-hole course for kids across the Center City Golf Course's 76 acres.

Hansen's proposal was criticized by local golfers.

The city now has plans to revisit a proposal dubbed "Goat Hill" to renovate the area and add a botanical garden.
