Ocean Beach vendor ticketed despite 'special permission' letter from former mayor Bob Filner

SAN DIEGO - An Ocean Beach vendor was ticketed for selling handmade jewelry on the beach despite a "special permission" letter from former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner.

David Millette received the signed letter from Filner in April of last year after finding a loophole in the county code.

But with Filner gone, the power of his signature has gone too, at least according to the rangers who forced Millette to close up shop Saturday.

"He came over to me and he says, 'You know why we're here,'" Millette said about his run-in with lifeguards."He goes, 'You're not going to turn this place into a flea market.'"

The lifeguards cited orders from the city's Parks and Recreation Director Stacey LoMedico.

"I would think that the mayor, even Interim Mayor Todd Gloria would have to be the one to revoke it, not her," said Millette.

He said he showed the letter to lifeguards on Saturday, but it did not do him any good.

"They said, 'We'll see you in court," said Millette.
