SAN DIEGO - People in one Ocean Beach community say they're afraid to walk alone after an outbreak of violent sex crimes.
In the past few months, there have also been several peeping tom incidents.
In addition, the San Diego Police Department reported a total of 19 sex crimes in the past six months in the area.
Residents said it has affected how they live.
"I don't run by myself. If I am by myself, I'm holding my keys ready to stab someone," said one resident. "I'm not afraid to hurt someone to protect myself."
Residents have decided to start a citizen's patrol - while a local dojo is offering free self defense classes to women in the area.
