Oak Park barbershop shooting suspect in court

SAN DIEGO - Arraignment is scheduled Friday for one of two men arrested in connection with the death last spring of an Oak Park barbershop owner who was gunned down at his workplace.

Ian Patrick Guthrie, 38, was arrested Wednesday in Rancho Penasquitos in connection with the May 9 death of 32-year-old Lamar Canady.

A second suspect, 47-year-old Peter Johnson, was tracked down in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, and is being held there pending extradition proceedings, police said.

Canady was fatally shot late on the morning of May 9 at his business in the 5400 block of Redwood Street. The father of four died at the scene.

Authorities have released no suspected motive for the slaying or disclosed the relationships, if any, among the suspects and Canady.

Guthrie was being held without bail pending arraignment.
