Northwest swell to bring large waves to SD

SAN DIEGO - An elevated northwest swell will bring bigger than normal waves to San Diego County's westerly facing beaches Friday, meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service scheduled a high surf advisory for the county from 6 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, saying 4- to 7-foot waves with sets to 9 feet are likely.

High surf can cause strong rip currents and minor beach erosion.
