SAN DIEGO - Nordstrom will be closing its Horton Plaza location later this summer, the company announced Friday.

The store at the downtown San Diego shopping mall will officially close its doors on Aug. 26. The store first opened in 1985.

Jamie Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom stores, said, "We've been in business at Horton Plaza for 31 years and we've loved serving our customers here. These are always tough decisions to make, but in taking a look at the store's performance and our business needs into the future, we believe this is the best direction to take. We look forward to serving our loyal Horton Plaza customers at our other San Diego stores. Fashion Valley is right down the road and we're excited that our University Town Centre store in La Jolla, where we've served customers since 1984, will relocate to a new space in the mall next year and re-open with our latest store design."

According to the company, 180 non-seasonal employees will be affected by the Horton Plaza location closure.

"We've told our people that with opportunities at our nearby Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores, we will have a spot for everyone who wants to stay with the company," said Nordstrom.

Nordstrom's other San Diego locations are not impacted by the Horton Plaza location closure.
