ESCONDIDO, Calif. -
A new Target store that could help revive business at an Escondido mall opened its doors Wednesday.
The store, the latest development in a $55 million renovation project at Westfield North County, fills the space that was previously occupied by retailer Robinsons-May.
The location has been empty for several years.
In addition to its usual retail offerings, the new Target store features a Starbucks store and produce section. Store officials are hoping it will be a big draw for customers looking for a one-stop shop.
Target has opened stores at the Plaza Bonita, Grossmont Center and Mission Valley shopping malls.
Mall officials are hoping the store will bring new shoppers to the area and those shoppers may linger in the mall to buy something else.
