SAN DIEGO -- Near freezing temperatures and frost are expected early Tuesday in parts of San Diego County ahead of a slow warming trend.

A National Weather Service frost advisory for the valleys and deserts, including the Borrego Springs area, will expire at 8 a.m. Forecasters warned that near or below freezing temperatures would be possible in the affected areas before dawn.

"A cool air mass, clear skies and light winds will result in temperatures falling into the lower to mid-30s early this morning in portions of the inland valleys and lower deserts with patchy frost," according to the
weather service.

The cold may harm unprotected cops, sensitive outdoor plans and pets.

Daytime temperatures are expected to warm up Wednesday. But gusty wind and a slight chance of showers will follow later in the work week before a warmer weekend as high pressure rebuilds, according to the weather service.
