Brett Allen Wagner, 40, was arrested earlier this month and extradited from Pascagoula, Miss., to San Diego County to face charges stemming from the alleged crimes, which happened between 1997 and 2004, according to the District Attorney's Office.

South Bay Judge Roderick Shelton set Wagner's bail at $1.2 million.

According to the criminal complaint, Wagner molested the girl, who was under 14, from 1997 to 2001 in Chula Vista and 2001 to 2004 in Monterey.

Wagner allegedly had the victim touch his private parts and, at another time, he allegedly touched her vagina, as well, according to the complaint.

Shelton ordered the defendant to have no contact with the alleged victim and to surrender all firearms, but Wagner said he did not have any.

Wagner -- who will be back in court Thursday for a status conference -- faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted, said Deputy District Attorney Rachel Cano.
