SAN DIEGO - Thousands of drivers will see an interesting sight over Interstate 805 this week.
San Diego Gas and Electric told 10News it suspended a large cargo net Sunday over the highway, just north of the Interstate 8 interchange, while it installs a new 69kV transmission line. The cargo net will protect the highway in case something should go wrong and the line falls.
About 192,000 drivers pass underneath those wires every day. The cargo net is located just south of the Murray Ridge Road exit.
The net will remain in place this week and then be moved over state Route 163 the following week so that crews can extend the same power line. SDG&E said the new transmission line will improve electric flow in the San Diego area and increase the capacity of electricity SDG&E can move through the system.
