SAN DIEGO - At least three people were reported to be in custody Thursday after a suspected smuggling boat ran aground off the coast of Sunset Cliffs.
Two men and a woman were arrested after they bailed from the speed boat and tried to flee into the dark around 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to reports.
The 22-foot speed boat came up against the rocks near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard at Osprey Street at about 10 p.m., authorities said.
It is unclear how many people were on the boat. Several were seen running up the cliffs and into the surrounding area. Multiple suspected illegal immigrants were arrested and authorities are continuing to search for more.
Personnel from lifeguards, San Diego police and the Border Patrol were responding to the incident.
The boat in Wednesday's incident is the same type of boat that ran aground at Sunset Cliffs on Tuesday.
