SAN DIEGO - A 57-year-old woman was airlifted to the hospital Friday afternoon after a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 5 in the Oceanside area.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the woman was driving her 2005 Ford Expedition on southbound I-5 just south of Oceanside Boulevard when she somehow lost control of her vehicle, veered across all lanes and overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Sig Alert was issued and lanes were blocked off as authorities worked to extricate the woman her SUV. A rescue helicopter landed on the freeway to airlift the woman to Scripps La Jolla Hospital.
She suffered was were considered "major injuries."
All lanes were re-opened shortly before 2:15 p.m.
No other injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.
Alcohol or drugs were not suspected in the incident, the CHP said.
