PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. - A 50-year-old Valley Center man was fatally injured in a suspected drunken driving crash in Pauma Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Returning homeowners at a residence on Rincon Ranch Road heard the man moaning, then found him lying under a tree shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, CHP Officer Eric Newbury said. His overturned 1990 Nissan Pathfinder was found nearby.
The residents called for help. A helicopter was dispatched, but the driver died from injuries he sustained in the crash while being flown to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, Newbury said.
Newbury said investigators suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The victim's name was withheld pending family notification, Newbury said.
