BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. - A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash in Borrego Springs was identified Saturday as a 62-year-old Riverside County man.
Mark C. Larsen, of Corona, was driving a 1946 Indian Chief motorcycle and crashed on the curve on Montezuma Valley Road at Palm Canyon Drive at around 3:15 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers said he was driving at about 40 mph and over-applied the brakes which caused the motorcycle to skid.
He lost control of the bike and it went off the right side of the roadway, over the dirt shoulder and then crashed into a rock embankment, the CHP reported.
Larsen was thrown from the motorcycle, and both he and the vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lane.
Borrego Springs Fire Department personnel provided the rider medical attention, but he died at the scene, CHP officials said in a statement.
