Motorcyclist injured after crashing into car

SAN DIEGO - A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries when he crashed into a car at a San Diego intersection, a police sergeant said Sunday.

The crash was reported at 10:49 p.m. Saturday at Paseo Montril and Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard, said San Diego police Sgt. David E. Jennings.

"A 35-year-old motorcyclist was eastbound at 12900 Penasquitos Boulevard at a high rate of speed," Jennings said. "He ran the red light and collided broadside with a Mitsubishi Lancer that was turning westbound onto Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard from Paseo Montril."

Jennings said the motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries, including a compound fractured arm and head trauma.

The department's traffic division is investigating the crash.
