SAN DIEGO - A man who crashed his motorcycle while attempting to elude police in the Chollas Creek area early Wednesday died at the scene, police said.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight when a patrol officer spotted a motorcyclist speeding near the 4300 block of Home Avenue.

When the officer tried to stop the rider, he sped off. At the intersection of Altadena Avenue and Euclid Avenue, the motorcyclist tried to pass a car, but lost control and skidded off the road. Initial reports stated that the rider made an illegal U-turn.

Paramedics administered CPR, but the motorcyclist did not survive.

10News spoke with friends of the motorcyclist who arrived at the scene of the crash early Wednesday.

They identified the rider as a 24-year-old contractor who recently moved to San Diego from Pittsburgh. Friends said the motorcyclist was in the Black Hawks Bike Club.

Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the motorcyclist.
