Motorcyclist dies after crash down embankment

ALPINE, Calif. - A motorcyclist died after veering off the roadway and down an embankment in the Cleveland National Forest southeast of Alpine.

The crash near the intersection of Japatul and High Glen roads was reported shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire.

The motorcycle was found down an embankment in the Horsethief Canyon area, according to Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser, who said the rider died at the scene.

A local television station reported that the rider fell about 100 feet down the canyon.
