SAN DIEGO - Police Tuesday are investigating the death of a 63-year- old motorcyclist in a collision with a San Diego Police Department vehicle.
The crash occurred just after 7 p.m.Monday near Balboa Avenue at Mt. Everest Boulevard. Witnesses say the police vehicle had its lights on and was making a u-turn to head in the opposite direction when the motorcycle crashed into it.
The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital to be treated. He died at the hospital a short time later.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
Investigators were at scene for hours. Lanes were finally reopened at about 5 a.m.
Authorities have not released the name of the officer in the crash.
