More than 300 children take part in 20th annual 'Shop with a Cop'

Kids enjoyed breakfast, animal show at SeaWorld

SAN DIEGO - More than 300 children enjoyed breakfast, a private animal show at SeaWorld and a $100 holiday shopping spree at the Midway-area Target as part of the 20th annual "Shop with a Cop" event on Saturday morning.

The event not only provides children with a happier holiday season but also positive interaction with local law enforcement officers. More than 300 officers participated in Saturday's event, which was co-hosted by the County Probation Department and District Attorney's Office this year.

The children were selected from local elementary schools by counselors and teachers.

"Shop with a Cop" is sponsored by local law enforcement agencies, SeaWorld, Target, STAR/PAL – a nonprofit police athletic league that offers free youth programs – and the San Diego Crime Commission.

10News anchor Kimberly Hunt and Billy Ray Smith served as the masters of ceremony for the event.
