CARLSBAD, Calif. - More than 1,000 athletes from around the world participated in the annual Carlsbad Triathlon on Sunday.
Among those competing was Olympian and former "Dancing with the Stars" champion Apolo Ohno. He was hoping to use this triathlon to qualify for the Iron Man Challenge in Hawaii.
Olympian and previous Carlsbad Triathlon winner Michellie Jones told 10News, "It's almost like a full time job to do all that training you have to do … seven bike rides and three hour plus runs. It's hard enough just training for a marathon and you throw everything that's involved in Iron Man triathlon … it's a very unique sport but very special."
The triathlon includes a 1-kilometer swim, then a 25-kilometer bike ride and ends with a 5-kilometer run to the finish.
