According to Crunchtime Popcorn owner Kim Pinkney, the Milwaukee Brewers left fielder and his girlfriend visited the store hours before his team played the San Diego Padres at Petco Park Monday night.
Braun ordered a strawberry-banana smoothie, and then proceeded to have the first three-homer game of his career in an 8-3 win over the Padres. He also added a two-run triple and finished the game with a career-best six RBI.
Braun became the first player to smack three home runs in a game at Petco Park since the stadium opened in 2004. He hit a solo home run in the fourth inning that landed beyond the right-center field fence, a two-run blast in the fifth inning that struck the fourth level of the Western Metal Supply Co. structure and a homer on the first pitch he saw in the seventh inning.
Pinkney told 10News Braun and his girlfriend arrived at her store on K Street shortly before it was to open Tuesday morning and he once again ordered the strawberry-banana smoothie.
"[He said], 'Can't say if it was the smoothie, but maybe it was the smoothie [so] we'll do it again just in case,'" Pinkney said.
Pinkney said she is still a Padres fan but can't help rooting for Braun, too.
The Padres said Braun is the first player to hit three homers and a triple in a game since Fred Lynn did it for Boston at Detroit on June 18, 1975, according to research by the Elias Sports Bureau.
