Mission Valley hotel workers protesting for jobs arrested

SAN DIEGO - At least 20 people protesting to save their jobs at a Mission Valley hotel were arrested Friday evening.

Several dozen protesters marched into the Hilton Hotel in Mission Valley at about 5:30 p.m. demanding justice, higher wages and demanding they not be fired when new ownership comes in at the end of the month.

Jorge Marengo, a hotel employee for seven years, was among the protesters. He told 10News he has been an outstanding employee, but the current hotel owners are not sharing that kind of information with the new ownership. He said that could leave him unemployed and his family devastated.

10News reached out to the current hotel owners for comment, but there has been no response.

It remains unclear if the protesting workers will keep their jobs.

10News learned it is very possible all employees could be hired back.

Police say the arrestees face trespassing charges and possibly disturbing the peace charges.
