A San Diego grandfather and Vietnam Veteran who went missing ten days ago was found safe Monday in a Las Vegas hospital after a doctor at the hospital saw online that his patient was a missing person.
Eliasib Cantu, of San Ysidro, went missing on November 18, prompting a frantic and heartbreaking search by his family.
The 68-year-old has Schizophrenia.
“Our thanksgiving day was everyone out searching for my dad,” daughter Aime Cantu said from the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where her father is being cared for.
“No, he still doesn’t remember exactly why he left but he said that he was looking for us,” Cantu said.
She said her dad told her that he got a free bus ride to Los Angeles and another ride to Las Vegas on a Greyhound Bus.
He fell, and checked himself into the hospital shortly after arriving.
Family members believe that, because of his Schizophrenia, he was very confused and unable to call his family.
“The important thing to us is that he’s safe,” Cantu said.
Cantu told 10News that the Plaza Hotel and Casino heard about the story and offered the family a free night while they take care of Eliasib.
The family says they want to thank all of the people who helped them get Eliasib home safe.
