SANTEE, Calif. - A 12-year-old Santee boy who was reported missing while walking home from school Tuesday afternoon was found safe hours later near the San Diego Harbor, authorities said Wednesday.
Harbor police found the boy, whose name is Eric, on Harbor Drive near Pacific Highway and Broadway just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Prior to being found, Eric had last been seen walking home from Pride Academy in the 9300 block of Prospect Avenue around 2 p.m., a department statement said. Authorities did not immediately explain how Eric got to the Harbor area.
10News spoke with Officer Robert Glenn, who was just starting his shift when he found the boy sleeping on the sidewalk.
"I asked him what his name was, asked why he was down here, asked him if he had run away, he said he had, contact his parents at that point and brought him back here to the headquarters," said Glenn. "He was sleeping on the sidewalk."
