Sheriff's officials said the mother of 12-year-old Jasmine Cossio told deputies her daughter, who walks to school, never made it to Woodland Middle School.

The sheriff's department's Search and Rescue team was called in to assist in the search effort, and the department said the ASTREA helicopter was hovering over neighborhoods and making overhead announcements.

According to sheriff's officials, Jasmine was found safe shortly after 12:15 p.m. at her grandmother's house.

Sheriff's officials said the girl was apparently running late for school and was upset about being rushed out of the house. Jasmine then took the Sprinter train to her grandmother's home in Escondido.

Sheriff's officials said the grandmother did not know Jasmine skipped school. She then notified Jasmine's mother about her whereabouts.
