MIRAMAR, Calif. – Hundreds of thousands of people will be descending on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar this weekend for the aerial extravaganza that is the annual Miramar Air Show, which will feature the Navy Blue Angels and the Army Golden Knights.

Gates open daily at 8 a.m. Friday through Sunday, and performances begin at 9 a.m. Admission is free, although tickets can be purchased for preferred seating areas.

The Blue Angels will perform every afternoon at 3 p.m. This year, however, there will be no Twilight Show, which was canceled due to security and traffic concerns.

The theme of this year’s show is “Celebrating 100 Years of the Marine Corps Reserve.”

Bags, purses, totes, backpacks and ice chests are among the prohibited items. Folding chairs, binoculars and cameras are allowed. For a full list of permitted and prohibited items, click here.

Other performers include the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs, Breitling Jet Team, the Sean D. Tucker “Oracle Challenger” and the Shockwave Jet Truck. More than 50 aircrafts will be on display, including the Coast Guard Sector San Diego's centennial anniversary aircraft. The Coast Guard has repainted six MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters in the chrome yellow color of those used in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Weather is expectedto be warm, with temperatures into the 70s Friday, 80s on Saturday and 90s on Sunday. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
Parking is free. To get on the base, drivers must have a valid license, current registration and proof of insurance.

In 2013, the show was canceled by the federal government one day before it was supposed to start. Even before it was canceled, plans for the 2013 show were scaled back from its usual three-days to two after the Department of Defense decided to pull the Blue Angels from the line-up due to automatic spending cuts known as "sequestration."
