Mira Costa College student says she was struck by faculty member's car

She says school has not done anything about it

OCEANSIDE, Calif. - A student at Mira Costa College says she was the victim of a hit-and-run by a faculty member on campus and that the school refused to do anything about it.

The student, a freshman at the college who did not want to be identified, said the incident occurred in the campus parking lot. She said she was walking on her way to a class when she was struck by a car that did not stop. She says the car was pulling out of a staff parking spot.

"It's almost like someone just shoving you as hard as they can," said the student.

While she admits her injuries may not be serious, they are painful.

"I was knocked back. I almost fell over," she said. "It's sore all the way down … As I got hit my arm jammed into my side and so I got some bruising in my ribs up here."

She says she received her injuries in a slow-speed hit-and-run in her own campus parking lot.

"And the person proceeded to pull out, gave me a little bit of an 'I'm sorry' wave and drove off," she said.

The reason she said she wanted to hide her identity was because she says there was a faculty member behind the wheel.

"I don't want other faculty to know who I am or know what happened in case … what if one of my teachers happens to be friends with this person?" she said.

She says she reported the incident to campus police immediately and even gave them a license number.

"I was pissed off and I wanted to do something about it," she said.

Three days later, she said she has received no response. Campus police tell 10News they never got a report.

"I think they're lying," said the student.

Now, she is reeling from both pain and anger.

"I don't really want much from them. I just want them to know that it's not OK to do this and I want the school to know it's not OK to ignore it," she said.

Campus officials told 10News that once they know who the student is, they would be happy to talk to her and resolve the issue.
