SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two young men accused in a shooting in a City Heights alley last month that left one victim dead and another wounded pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and attempted murder charges.

Luis Alejandro Dominguez, 21, and Abraham Leal Torres, 20, were arrested Thursday in Ensenada, Mexico, and returned to San Diego. Both defendants were ordered held on $2 million bail.

Investigators said the victims were in an alley off 44th and Thorn streets about 6:30 p.m. April 1 when two men approached, one carrying a gun.

Angel Sanabria, 26, died of his injuries a short time later. Another man, 29-year-old Joseph Luna, was wounded.

Deputy District Attorney Melissa Diaz alleged the defendants fired into a group of people in the alley and later shot at a 12-year-old boy who escaped injury.

Both Dominguez and Torres face one count of murder and six counts of attempted murder.

A status conference is set for May 25 and a preliminary hearing for June 2.
