SAN DIEGO - Two San Diego police officers, a husband and wife, arrested in a drug bust in June were in San Diego County Superior Court Friday for a readiness hearing.
Bryce Charpentier, 32, and Jennifer Charpentier, 41, have pleaded not guilty to multiple drug charges.
The 4S Ranch couple was arrested June 5 each on suspicion of conspiracy, sale, possession and transportation of a controlled substance -- Hydrocodone. Bryce Charpentier was also charged with being under the influence while in possession of a loaded firearm.
Prosecutors allege the two were addicted to opiates.
Bryce is a six-year member of the SDPD who works out of the Mid-City Division. Jennifer has been with the agency for 18 years and is assigned to the Western Division. Both have been suspended and their police powers revoked. They are currently free on bail.
Following their arrests, a judge gave temporary custody of Jennifer's two children to her ex-husband, who is a San Diego County Sheriff’s deputy.
Meanwhile, Bryce’s first wife claimed he was addicted to Vicodin, according to divorce documents obtained by 10News.
Bryce faces a maximum of six years and eight months in state prison if convicted. Jennifer would face five years and eight months.
On Friday, a judge extended the readiness hearing to Aug. 29, and scheduled the preliminary hearing for Sept. 5.
