OCEANSIDE, Calif. - The body of a man with no obvious signs of trauma was found in a homeless encampment in the San Luis Rey River in Oceanside.
The body, which was fully-clothed, was found floating face down in a secluded area of the river near the 700 block of Capistrano Drive about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Oceanside police and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
Lifeguards recovered the body and brought it to shore. Death was confirmed due to "obvious decomposition," officials with the Medical Examiner's Office said.
The body appeared to have been in the water for less than 72 hours before it was found, and there were no apparent signs of obvious trauma, Oceanside police Lt. Valencia Saadat said.
According to the Medical Examiner's Office, the body was that of a white man who was believed to be 40 to 50 years old.
Saadat said that due to the condition of the body, identification was not immediately possible.
