SAN DIEGO - A gunman suspected of wounding a 40-year-old man in San Diego's Valencia Park neighborhood was in custody Friday, police said.
The victim was getting into his car in the 300 block of San Alberto Way around 9:45 p.m. Thursday when two males approached on foot and one fired a handgun several times, striking the man once in the lower torso, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.
An officer responding to a call of shots fired in the area saw a Nissan leaving the scene and attempted to pull it over, Stafford said.
A brief chase ensued and the Nissan crashed into fence, he said, adding that the driver and a passenger bailed and ran away but officers caught up with tem nearby.
The alleged shooter was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, failure to yield and weapons charges and the other male was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, he said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, Stafford said.
