Man who led California Highway Patrol on pursuit in North County in custody

Pursuit ended on Carlsbad Blvd. at Island Way

CARLSBAD, Calif. - A man who led police on a pursuit in the North County was taken into custody Friday.

The California Highway Patrol received calls of a car stopped on the road at southbound Interstate 5 near Harbor Drive in Oceanside at about 2:12 p.m. A caller said a man and a woman were inside the car fighting. A young child was also inside the car.

The woman then got out of the car and the man drove away, continuing southbound on I-5.

A CHP officer tried to pull over the car and made contact with the man, but he sped away.

The pursuit ended near Carlsbad Boulevard at Island Way when officers used a pit maneuver to stop the car.

The driver was taken into custody, and the woman is being questioned. The child was taken to the CHP office.

No injuries were reported.
