Murray Lea is suing for $256,000 for injuries he claims were the result of him jumping out of the way when Seau drove his Cadillac Escalade over a cliff at Carlsbad State Beach in October 2010.

“I've had a torn groin muscle and a torn hip flexor. I don't know if you know how much that hurts, but it's extremely painful, it's hard to walk,” Lea said.

Lea sells t-shirts out of a mini-van along the beach. He also makes and sells wakeboards. There are posts on an internet website devoted to wakeboarding that are critical of Lea, in light of Seau’s recent suicide.

He lamented the circumstances that have put him in the glare of news media.

“I wish this would all go away. It was Junior, you know what I mean? I’m sad for Junior’s family. I’m sad for his friends and everybody in Oceanside.”

Lea told 10News, “I did nothing wrong and I have nothing to hide. All I did was try to save a guy’s life.”

The suit was filed in June 2011 and was scheduled for a trial in August.

Lea fired his attorney, though, so that date will likely be vacated.
