Victim Struck In Head, Chest With Aluminum Bat

San Diego police were on the lookout Thursday for a man who attacked a 48-year-old homeless man in a free food line with an aluminum baseball bat, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries.

The attack happened at God's Extended Hand at 1625 Island Ave. around 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The victim was standing in line for food when he was struck in the head and chest, Delimitros said in a statement. I t was not immediately clear whether the suspect was also homeless and standing in line for food.

Police described the bat-wielding man as Hispanic, in his 20s and around 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was last seen running away southbound on 16th Street, wearing a baseball cap, hoodie and blue jeans, Delimitros said.
