A man was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully firing a gun on New Year's Eve, and authorities got reports of celebratory gunfire or fireworks in Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Lemon Grove, Imperial Beach and Chula Vista.

The suspect was taken into custody at about 7:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on East Bradley Avenue in El Cajon. Sheriff's deputies did not release his name. About 10 shots reportedly were fired, according to deputies. Unlawfully discharging a gun, which can be filed as a felony, is punishable by a jail term.At about 10 p.m., other reports of gunfire started coming in, but authorities reported no injuries associated with the gunfire. In South Los Angeles, a bullet fired into the air came through the roof of a home and wounded a man in a leg.Some east of El Cajon set off a bottle rocket that started a brush fire about 10:10 p.m. along Mountain View Road. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was out, according to published reports.Sheriff's deputies reported gunfire or fireworks being heard around midnight in several unincorporated San Diego County areas.Copyright Do you have more information about this story?
