SAN DIEGO - 10News dug up court records that reveal the man who is suspected of trying to sexually assault a woman while he was wearing a Barbie costume has been arrested before.
It was a bizarre scene in a Clairemont Big Lots store on Friday when a grown man, wearing a Barbie outfit and a tutu, hid in a women's bathroom and tried to sexually assault a woman.
This was not his first run-in with the law. 10News found court records that show in 2010, Gregory Schwartz admitted he left his 2-year-old daughter alone at home while he went out to buy drugs. During the drug deal, he was arrested. In 1999, Schwartz was arrested for selling LSD to an undercover officer. But Friday's outrageous stint may be what sends him away for awhile.
The victim talked to 10News but did not want to be identified.
"It was eerie. It was sick," she said. "He was waiting in there for somebody."
She told 10News the 40-year-old was hiding in a women's bathroom at the Big Lots in Clairemont. As soon as she closed her stall door, she says Schwartz pounced on her while he was wearing a Barbie outfit and a tutu.
"He went underneath the stall really quickly and then he came into my stall and the door was still locked," she said. "I didn't even have time to act. He grabbed my neck and he pushed me all the way against the wall and he started squeezing my neck and I start yelling from the top of my lungs and then he covered my mouth and he was like, 'Shhhh.'"
The woman said she blacked out but when she came to, she screamed and fought him off.
She said he ran out of the women's bathroom into the men's restroom and then out of the store, adding a couple employees tried to stop him but could not.
The man got away, but on Sunday afternoon, police found him in the same Clairemont neighborhood and arrested him.
Schwartz is still in jail charged with three felonies, including false imprisonment and assault with intent to commit rape.
Schwartz's bail is set at $100,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
