CHULA VISTA, Calif. - A man was hit by a car and killed while apparently trying to flag down traffic for some reason on Interstate 5 in Chula Vista early Saturday.
The pedestrian was observed walking southbound on the right shoulder of the northbound freeway, south of J Street, at 1:05 a.m. Witnesses said he appeared to be attempting to flag down traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man, who was believed to have been between 18 and 30 years old, was struck by a 2007 Honda Civic while attempting to cross the northbound lanes, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
The driver of a 2007 Honda Civic stopped and reported striking the pedestrian, who was declared dead at the scene by emergency personnel at about 1:20 a.m., authorities said. His name was not immediately released.
