Authorities on Saturday released the name of a 51-year-old Encinitas man who was fatally struck by an Amtrak train.

Douglas Gregory Burns left a friend's trailer after consuming alcohol on Friday night, about an hour before he was struck by a southbound Amtrak train, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Medical Examiner's Office said the crash occurred at about 10:15 p.m. near 1542 North Coast Highway 101.

Sheriff's deputies and emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced Burns dead at the scene at about 10:25 p.m., the Medical Examiner's Office reported.
