Police Friday investigated the death of a 40-year-old man fatally struck by a trolley in downtown San Diego.

The man was walking southbound across C Street, between Seventh and Eighth streets, when he was struck by the westbound trolley about 5:20 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford.He was knocked to the ground and died at the scene, Stafford said in a statement.
